Finland's Independence Day - 89 years

I tried my hand at my first ever video - it's more of a slide show. I had no clue how hard it was to make one of those. Anyway.

Here's Finland as I see it. The audio is flawed (starts and ends abruptly) - but it was the only file I could find. Hope you like my slice of Finland.

I wish we'd get tons of snow SOON ! My sledge is already waiting.

I have to continue knitting, I still have too many mittens undone and time is running out...

It was a good selection of inspiring images, thanks for the show, Anniina!

On a side note: I was secretly hoping for some folks' music to accompany the pictures, but it IS nice anyway.

The song is the "Finlandia Hymn" by Jean Sibelius - written to commemorate Finland's fight against Russia, to retain our independence. To a Finn, it is probably the most moving piece of music.

Oi, Suomi katso, sinun päiväs koittaa,
yön uhka karkoitettu on jo pois,
ja aamun kiuru kirkkaudessa soittaa,
kuin itse taivahan kansi sois,
yön vallat aamun kirkkaus jo voittaa,
sun päiväs koittaa, oi synnyinmaa.

Oi, nouse , Suomi, nosta korkealle
pääs seppelöimä suurten muistojen,
oi nouse, Suomi, näytit maailmalle
sä että karkoitit orjuuden
ja ettet taipunut sa sorron alle,
on aamus alkanut, synnyinmaa.

Sorry, couldn't help it :)
You are true, Niu, Finlandia brings tears to my eyes every single time I hear it :)

Finland is beautiful! I'm guessing you took all the pictures yourself too? And the music is quite excellent. I'll have to look for it.

Actually, I used "Windows Movie Maker" - it came standard with my version of Windows - never knew I had it, until yesterday, heheh. Ist, actually those aren't my pics, but ones I found all over the place. If you're looking for the music, you oughta get the choral version; it's quite something. I'm gonna translate the words in a post, soon.

I'm sorry Anniina, I did not meant to hurt your feelings with my remarks on the music. I'm sorry I did not recognize it. I found it moving and somehow cheerful. Now, as I have read the translated version I like it even more.

Szélső Fa, not at all :) Sorry if I came off sounding upset. I've been weirdly hormonal lately. What's the weather like in Hungary?
